Hand in Hand
The Moment: Demanding justice for the death of George Floyd, thousands of peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters descended on the intersection of Sunset and Vine in Hollywood, California on June 2, 2020. Amidst the overwhelming chants to mobilize unity and hope, one of the most visually striking moments to me was watching a young black woman sit in the middle of Sunset Boulevard facing a United States National Guard lineup just a few feet away. With tears running down her cheeks, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Moments laters, allies joined her hands in solidarity and formed a lineup of their own stretching across the boulevard.
